Comfortable stay at Country House De Wilgenhorst

Landhuis De Wilgenhorst

We bought De Wilgenhorst in the spring of 2021 and were overwhelmed by the blooming orchards, the dike with flowering meadowsweet, and the wonderful tranquility.
But above all, by the charm of this friendly country house with its thatched roof and beautiful garden and meadow.

From the first moment we knew: we want to share this with others!
And so the idea for our B&B was born.

History

De Wilgenhorst was built in 1929 at the request of Alexandre Jean Joseph van der Voo, a not impoverished artist who lived there until his death in 1954.
Van der Voo was a landscape painter and had his studio on the front side of the house (the north - the best spot because of the light) on the first floor. This explains the large, high windows. From the studio (now a bedroom), you can look out unobstructed over the meadows to Papekop. 
In 2002, the house was connected to the haystack by an extension where the kitchen and dining room are now located. In 2018, the haystack (which until then was a carport) was transformed into independent guest accommodation.
This is now De Studio, the place where our B&B is located.

The main house and the associated horse stable have the status of Municipal Monument.

Swiebertje

While researching the history of De Wilgenhorst, we discovered that all recordings of the legendary television program Swiebertje were made in and around Oudewater and Hekendorp, and some of the outdoor shots were even taken around De Wilgenhorst. You can even find a statue of him opposite the town hall in Oudewater
